What is Soy Wax?

Soy Wax is a natural vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated.

Why choose Soy Wax?

Here are a number of reasons why we choose Soy Wax over Paraffin wax-

1. Longer Burning
 - Soy wax has a lower melting point which means it burns up to 50% longer than paraffin wax.

2. Non-Toxic - As soy wax is made from vegetable oil it is clean burning and releases no known carcinogens when it is burnt.

3. Better Fragrance - Due to the lower melting temperature of the wax, a healthier ‘wax pool’ around the wick is created. This ‘wax pool’ allows the fragrance oils to more easily vaporise, and thus releasing more fragrance.

4. Renewable Resource - Soybeans are an environmentally friendly, sustainable and renewable resource.

5. Easier to clean  - Any spills of soy wax are much easier to get out of fabrics or table cloths as it is biodegradable, with a simple wipe it's gone.

6. Clean burning
 - Soy burns clean which means minimal soot is released.

Did you know that soy wax has a memory!?

If your candle is extinguished prior to allowing a full wax melt pool, all future melt pools will not go past the first one. The size of the melt pool is directly related to the fragrance throw, so make sure to burn your candle for long enough each time so the melt pool reaches the edge of the glass.

What does 'Mushrooming' of the wick mean?

Mushrooming is when the wick forms a mushroom shape.
This is okay and simply means that there is a buildup of carbon from burning for a longer period or perhaps a draft.  After the candle is extinguished, allow the wick to harden and carefully trim to around 4- 5mm.

Why does my Candle wax look like it has stuck to the inside of the glass?

This is known in the trade as 'Wet spots' and gives the appearance that the wax seems stuck to the glass. It is caused by changes in temperature which in turn  causes the expansion and contraction of the soy wax inside.
It is a perfectly normal characteristic of natural wax (especially Soy), is nothing to worry about and in no way affects the burning of the candle.

What is the 'frosting' type surface on the top of my candle?

Frosting (cloudy appearance on the candle surface) is a natural crystal growth of the vegetable oils and is a natural characteristic of soy. It is a way a customer can tell their candles are made with 100% pure & natural soy. Some fragrances are more prone to causing this than others.
It is a perfectly normal characteristic of natural wax (especially Soy). It is nothing to worry about and in no way affects the burning of the candle.

Any tips to look after my candle?

  CANDLE CARE

- Keep the wick trimmed to approximately 5mm
- Place candle on a flat flame-retardant surface
- Never leave a burning candle unattended or within reach of flammable objects, children or pets
-
Do not burn more than 4 hours at a time
-
When 1cm wax remains, discontinue use
-
Extinguish flame by snuffing or dipping the wick in the wax melt pool (blowing will cause wick to smoke)
-
Clean the jar with warm, soapy water, allow to dry and reuse

Can I re-use or return my empty glasses?

You can either re-use (re-purpose) or recycle your empty glasses.

We hope to launch a return scheme for undamaged used glass vessels very soon!

How do I use the wax melts?

- Remove all packaging – all cellophane wrappers are biodegradable so feel free to dispose of in food recycling waste

- Place wax melt burner on a flat flame-retardant surface
- Place desired number of melts into wax melt burner breaking snap bars or large shapes to desired quantity
- Place a new unscented tealight into wax melt burner
- Light the tealight and enjoy the fragrance from your melt. Visible fragrance vapour is perfectly normal from a molten soy wax melt and shows it is filling your room with the lovely scent

What should I do when the melt has finished?

- When the tealight has gone out or has been extinguished just leave the molten wax in the burner to solidify
- Once you feel the scent has reduced or you want to change the melt just burn the tealight for a few minutes which will loosen the bond of the solidified melt with the burner. Then gently slide the wax ‘disc’ from the burner, wipe any remaining wax from the burner surface and start with a fresh melt
- An alternative method is to use cotton wool to soak up the molten wax and dispose of accordingly
- Dispose of used solidified wax melts in the food recycling waste
